Animation & Motion

The Media Production Group started in the early days of distance learning, making educational material available by mail as well as reaching broad audiences through broadcast.

The following projects are some of our favorites. We may refer to them because we used a particular technique, or we highlighted a specific subject matter in an innovative way.

Virtual Chicken

Working under a USDA grant, we worked with Auburn’s Poultry Science Department to create the world’s first virtual chicken. Intended to replace the numerous chickens sacrificed every year at the altar of Poultry Science students learning anatomy, this 8-minute video covers the anatomy of a female chicken’s reproductive tract and documents the 25-hour journey of egg creation.

The virtual chicken was  featured in an episode of Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities, a British television series from famed naturalist and filmmaker Sir David Attenborough.

Here’s the job:

Make a video explaining why Auburn’s team and its approach to biofuels is solid enough for the U.S.  government to fork over millions of dollars in pursuit of a viable fuel for the future.

By the way, it’s due in 10 days.

Challenge accepted. This is what we created.

Auburn’s team got the grant and, almost as gratifying, a standing ovation from the granting committee for this video.

Supply Chain Management

A digital text developed with Brian Gibson, Wilson Family Professor from the Harbert College’s Department of Supply Chain Management, truly flipped the classroom. Student engagement went through the roof. Rather than coming to class confused or lost in a reading they may not have completed, they watched these videos and arrived informed and ready to engage with the material.
